To celebrate Meridian Art Week, Idaho Art Gallery is hosting an inclusive, community-centered, Quick Draw event that celebrates creativity, engages local artists of all skill levels, and highlights the vibrancy of downtown Meridian.

What is a Quick Draw?

A Quick Draw is a live art-making experience where artists create original works within a set time while the public watches. The finished pieces are offered for sale throughout the duration of the event, making it an exciting and fast-paced celebration of creativity.

Overview
  • Artists check in at Idaho Art Gallery, then select an outdoor painting location in downtown Meridian marked with a blue “X”.
  • Each artist creates one original work within the 90-minute timeframe.
  • Finished works are submitted for jurying at Idaho Art Gallery at the end of the 90-minute creation time frame.
  • First place receives a cash prize of $1000 and second place receives downtown Meridian gift cards totaling $500 in value, sponsored by participating Downtown Meridian businesses.
Eligibility & Requirements
  • Open to anyone 18 years of age or older, any background, any experience level, and any 2D art medium (so long as it is clean and non-invasive to public spaces- no spray paint, drip painting, etc.).
  • Must be physically present for the entire duration of the event, including check in, the 90-minute creation window, and awards.
  • Only one piece may be submitted per artist, and the artwork must be listed for sale during the event for a 70/30 commission split between the artist (70%) and Idaho Art Gallery (30%).
  • Artists are required to bring and use a drop cloth or some barrier under painting or easel.
  • Artists must bring all materials needed for setup and creation (this includes but is not limited to: a drawing board, an easel, pencils, water cups, water, paint brushes, towels, paint, a stool/chair, a drop cloth, canvas/paper/panel (256 square inches or smaller), etc.) Artists should be prepared for an outdoor setting and be fully self-sufficient. No supplies will be provided or available through Idaho Art Gallery.
Artwork Guidelines
  • Entire artwork must be started and completed on-site, within the 90 minute creation window. Open theme. Artists are allowed to paint/draw from life, or bring reference photos to paint/draw from.
  • Medium: Artists can use any art medium, so long as it is 2D, clean and non-invasive to public spaces (no spray paint, drip painting, etc.). Permitted mediums include but are not limited to oil, acrylic, pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, and pastel.
  • Surface: Artwork must not exceed 256 square inches (Acceptable sizes include but are not limited to 16x16in, 14x12in, 12x12in, etc.) The 256 square inches does NOT include matting or framing. Artists are allowed to use paper, panel, canvas, linen, and more, so long as it adheres to size, framing, edge guidelines.
  • Framing: Artwork either must be framed at the end of the creation time frame, within 15 minutes, before bringing in for jurying at IAG, or be at least 3/4 inch deep canvas/board/panel (with clean and dry sides. We recommend taping them to keep them clean).

Optional: Artists may tone their painting or drawing surface with a single base color prior to the event.

***If an artist does not adhere to the 90 minute creation window time frame, or edge, surface, medium, or size guidelines, the artist will be disqualified immediately. There are no refunds if an artist is disqualified.***

Art Sales Process
  • During Check In on the day of the event, each artist will be given an official entry tag, with their information on it. At this point they will specify the price of the artwork on that tag.
  • At any point during the event, someone may purchase a piece of artwork. If they would like to purchase a piece, they must get the official entry tag from the artist, and bring it to Idaho Art Gallery, where they will pay for the piece. The purchaser will then receive a sold sticker to return to the artist, indicating that the piece is sold. Once the event is over at 8:30PM, the purchaser may take the piece with them.
  • Any unsold artwork must be picked up by the artist by the end of the event. THERE IS NO ART STORAGE AT IAG.
