MAUREEN SHIELDS

Maureen Shields is a San Francisco-based mixed media artist whose intricate collage works explore memory, nostalgia, and the surreal qualities of everyday life. Born and raised in Southern California, she earned her BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach, and her MFA from New York University.

Working on paper and wood, Shields combines watercolor, vintage printed materials, fabric, stickers, gold leaf, and hand-cut collage elements. Her entirely handmade process emphasizes layering and accumulation, creating dreamlike landscapes that blur the boundaries between memory and imagination. Her compositions invite viewers to discover personal narratives shaped by their own experiences.
