LIZ HUBBARD
Liz Hubbard lives and works on a small sheep ranch in Southern Oregon, where creativity has always been a natural part of her daily life. With wool readily available on the ranch—often the one material that was both plentiful and free—Liz immersed herself in the world of fiber arts. She began with spinning, knitting, and weaving before ultimately discovering her passion for felting. Over the years she has continued to deepen her skills through workshops at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, where she also served on the show committee, as well as through books, online courses, and traveling to study with leading international felt artists.
Liz’s work has been featured at the Winter Wings Bird Festival in Klamath Falls, the annual Sagebrush Rendezvous charity art show, and is currently on display in the gift shop at the Klamath County Museum. She is an active member of both the International Felt Makers Association and the Klamath Art Association. Her practice is grounded in her connection to the land she lives on; most of the wool she uses is grown on her own farm, with additional fibers collected from shepherds whose flocks offer unique textures and qualities.

In her studio, Liz favors the natural colors of wool—rich browns, greys, and earthy tones—while also incorporating hand-dyed fibers made with both natural and commercial dyes. Silk is her material of choice for surface design, adding luminosity and texture that bring each piece to life. Wet felting itself is a physically demanding, hands-on process: manipulating masses of saturated fibers until they transform into a cohesive whole. Her recent work explores the idea of making wool resemble tree bark, inspired by careful study of the colors and textures of forest landscapes. The creative journey often leads her somewhere unexpected, and for Liz, that sense of discovery is at the heart of her art.
