Hilber Nelson’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in his background in graphic design and advertising. Growing up in the 1950s and ‘60s, he developed a lasting appreciation for mid-century modern art—its bold graphics, sleek design, and optimistic energy. This influence is evident in his work, where he blends clean compositions, vibrant color palettes, and layered acrylic textures to capture the era’s dynamic spirit.
Each piece begins as a digital concept on his iPad Pro using Procreate, allowing him to refine compositions before transferring them to canvas. His process is both precise and intuitive, starting with foundational design elements before building layers of color, depth, and texture. The final details emerge in a spontaneous flow, often set to the sounds of jazz greats like Miles Davis and John Coltrane, further connecting his work to the era that inspires him.

After years working in publishing, advertising, and illustration, Hilber opened his home studio in 2022, dedicating himself fully to his art.
