BONNIE GRIFFITH
Bonnie Griffith is a renowned contemporary and impressionistic landscape artist and educator, based in southwestern Idaho. Her deep connection to the land is rooted in her upbringing on a cattle ranch in north-central Montana, where she developed a profound appreciation for the expansive landscapes she often viewed from horseback.
Griffith’s artistic mission is to draw viewers into her work, allowing them to experience and imagine the time of day, temperature, sounds, and smells of the scenes she portrays. She finds stories in the diverse landscapes of sagebrush hills, lush river lands, wheat fields, vibrant spring greens, and the ever-changing hues of the desert. Her choice of mediums, inclduing oil paint, pastels, and encaustic, enables her to convey these stories with strong color and intensity.
Griffith’s work is featured in galleries across Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. As an established and award-winning Plein Air painter, she participates in numerous Plein Air events throughout the western United States each year. Her pieces are included in permanent museum collections and commercial entities across the region.
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Griffith is a dedicated educator. She teaches Plein Air painting and pastel workshops both in her studio and at various locations throughout the West. She also juries and judges national art exhibits in galleries and museums. Griffith holds signature memberships with the Pastel Society of the West Coast and the Northwest Pastel Society, where she has served as President. She is also a member of Landscape Artists International, Plein Air Painters of Idaho, and the American Impressionist Society.
Bonnie Griffith’s extensive experience includes serving as chair for the Meridian (ID) Arts Commission for seven years, as Executive Director of WaterWorks Art Museum in Miles City, MT, and as curator for several galleries. Her work and leadership continue to influence the art community and inspire fellow artists and enthusiasts alike.
